Rhitu Chatterjee

Rhitu Chatterjee is a science reporter for The World, a daily international news show co-produced by the BBC World Service, PRI and WGBH in Boston. She produces and hosts a weekly science podcast for The World and oversees the show’s science website. Chatterjee also moderates an online discussion board called The World Science Forum, and occasionally produces stories for the radio show.

Originally from India, Chatterjee came to the United States eight years ago to pursue a career in academic science at the University of Missouri, Columbia. But after volunteering at the local community radio station she decided to merge her interests in science with her love for storytelling. She quit her Ph.D. in biology and pursued a master’s degree in journalism. Chatterjee has since worked at various news outlets and covered a range of scientific topics including basic science to health and environmental issues. Before joining the team at The World, she covered environmental science and policy for the news department of the international journal, Environmental Science and Technology. Her work has also appeared on NPR’s All Things Considered and in Science Magazine.
