Louisa Jonas is the web producer for WYPR 88.1 FM in Baltimore, Maryland. She is the creator and producer of the station’s Podcast Programming, producing original documentaries for podcast distribution. Natural Maryland is one of her monthly shows that explores the natural and cultural landscape of the state. Her most recent work is a documentary about Smith Island, a small fishing village in the middle of the Chesapeake Bay.
Jonas is editor of the book Backyard Carolina: Two Decades of Public Radio Commentary, a collection of nature essays about North and South Carolina. She holds an M.F.A. in Creative Non-fiction Writing from University of North Carolina Wilmington. Her graduate work included two years of field research with migratory shorebirds and spawning horseshoe crabs in Delaware Bay. She has worked as an environmental educator and canoe instructor for the Chesapeake Bay Foundation and has also worked as an environmental reporter for the East County Times in Baltimore. Before arriving at WYPR, she worked as a freelance producer for WHQR 91.3 FM in Wilmington, North Carolina.
