Jim Burress is a reporter/producer and fill-in host for WABE-FM, Atlanta’s NPR station. He holds a degree in English from Wabash College, one of only three all-male colleges in the nation, and a master’s in mass communication from Murray State University. Murray State’s NPR station, WKMS-FM, offered him his first taste of public radio. Starting as a part-time reporter, he quickly moved into the host’s chair and eventually to interim news director.
Despite working for a great station, Burress wanted to be a journalism professor. A graduate assistantship with Georgia State University’s Communications Department brought him to Atlanta. After surviving one year of GSU’s Ph.D. program, he realized he functioned best in a newsroom, not a classroom. As luck would have it, WABE’s newsroom needed one more person.
His biggest accomplishments include meeting Bob Barker and winning it all on the game show, The Price is Right, and earning his private pilot’s license.
