Michael Leland is the news director of Michigan Radio in Ann Arbor/Flint/Grand Rapids. Reporting takes up a little more than half his time at work. He frequently ends up covering business, the environment and immigrant communities, but would like to have the station air more (and better) science stories. Before moving to Michigan, Michael worked for ten years at Voice of America radio as a reporter/anchor in Washington, D.C., and as its Midwest bureau chief in Chicago. He has also worked for public radio stations in Chicago, Cincinnati and southwest Illinois. For a few years in the mid-90s, he was a weekend newscaster at NPR.
