Lonny Shavelson is a writer, photojournalist, radio journalist and emergency room physician who has written and photographed stories ranging from health care in Central American war zones to people with mental illness in the United States. His articles have appeared in numerous publications, from the New York Times to Family Circle. Shavelson’s radio stories have aired on NPR, Voice of America, BBC’s The World and other shows. He is the author of five books, most recently Hooked: Five Addicts Challenge Our Misguided Drug Rehab System.
