Julia McEvoy

Julia McEvoy is executive producer of Chicago Public Radio's Chicago Matters series and senior editor on the education and health desk. She launched the Ear to the Ground mentorship program, which seeks out new voices to contribute to Chicago Public Radio programs. Julia has been working in public radio for the last 20 years, both as an independent reporter and documentary producer. More recently as editor and executive producer of Chicago Matters, Julia has overseen production of work which has brought the station numerous industry awards including a Peabody, a Gracie and several national Murrows.

For many years, she struggled along as an independent producer, reporting for NPR, Marketplace and Latino USA. During this time, she became a mom of three children and a card-carrying PTA member. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin in Madison, and received a Rotary International Scholarship to do graduate work at the Centre Des Etudes pour la Science et Techniques de l'Information in Dakar, Senegal.
