Julia DeBruicker studied public health at Johns Hopkins University, worked at Appalshop in Kentucky, and produces for Marketplace. She enjoys using radio to investigate health, medicine and people's ability to be well in their communities. To that end, she spent a recent morning with a New Orleans EMT who treated thousands of people beneath an interstate overpass in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. The EMT would look out and see the group crowd-surfing their sickest patients toward her. DeBruicker lives in Indiana, where in 2003 she founded High Plateau Audio, a service for blending inquisitive media resources into the health sciences.
